The scammer who wrote this scam clearly has skills which could be put to much better use. The form that is attached to this scam gets sent to a domain that, according to Whois, has been registered by someone in Ireland. However, the billing address for it is in America, as is the IP address from which this email was sent.
This certainly doesn’t come from HMRC and you aren’t due a tax refund. If you really are expecting a tax refund, telephone your local branch of the Inland Revenue. The Inland Revenue DON’T send you a random email, without your name etc. If you are due for a refund, they write to you – a real, old fashioned letter in a real, old fashioned envelope.
If you make the mistake of filling in this form, contact your bank IMMEDIATELY so the scammer can’t empty your bank account.

I recieve the helen Hughes and the david craig Tax refunds quite regularly always £327.54. Why is it possible to send mail with no trace back to the sender and if there is why is the sender not locked up for … fraud impersonating the revenue etc.which is for the purpose of theft NOT FOR FUN!
thanks Eric Ashmole.
Just got this one but with a different name (Neil Robinson) and a different amount of refund (£344.79). Have to admit, I am due money so I checked it out first and found this as the top link. For information, the ID number was the same, as was Preston – 3819. I’ve never dealt with Preston, so I searched for ‘tax office ID 3819′ which brought me here. Thanks, keepsafe!
My situation is exactly the same as Mr Easton’s. I too did a search on the ID number which brought me to this site. Thank you, Keepsafe!
Just for reference this is what was put to me in my e-mail:

Heading:
Tax return – 2009/2010 – Recalculation of you tax refund
Just received this email today 3/10/10. Notice the grammer ( you ) instead of ‘your’. I didn’t even open this email up to see how stupid it sounded.
