A reader forwarded me this scam.  My reader has contacted the scammer (I don’t advise you to copy her).  This is what she says:
I have received this 2 different names  claiming to be employed by abbey bank — DAVID MORGAN, MARCUS STEVE.
I spoke to to DAVID MORGAN he told me he was employed by  ABBEY. Trying to get me to pay 250 pounds to claim my winnings of one million pounds as my e-mail address came up as a winner in a draw.  He would open the new ABBEY  bank account in my name once I pay the money.

I requested the application form but he would only e-mail this once I paid the money.
He was rather aggressive as the deal was,  I pay first before he could give me the form
CAN SOMEONE STOP THESE GUYS”

    My Mum applied for a mystery shopper job that was advertised by David Morgan – it appears to be a money laundering scheme.

    We found this out after google-ing “David Morgan + Mystery shopper”.
    There were quite a few sites that had this guys name mentioned in scams.

    Apparently the cheque they send you to do the mystery shopping is from an illegal source, and for a few thousand dollars, which they ask you to deposit into your account, then transfer into another dodgey account -hence the money laundering. It’s been happening in the UK, USA, Canada & Australia so far.
    This is what the job application reply said:

    Hello and how are you,

    Thank you for applying to be our mystery shopper in your area, your information has been accepted and inputted into our database and it is now pending approval from the Recruiting department. Upon approval your job as mystery shopper would begin next week and this would result to us providing you with more information. Please take your time and re-confirm your interest once again in being a mystery shopper.

    PAYMENT TERMS:

    Your payment would be sent weekly, Also the company is in charge of providing you with all expense money for the shopping and other expenses involved in the assignment. All the tools you need would be provided to you with details every week you have an assignment.

    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    1} When an assignment is given to you, you would be provided details to execute the assignment and in a timely fashion.
    2} You would be asked to visit a company or store in your area and they are mostly our competitors as a secret shopper and shop with them to know more about their sales and stock , cost sales and more details as provided by the company then report back to us with report . But anything you buy at the shop belongs to you. All we want is an effective/quick job and reports.

    ASSIGNMENT PACKET:

    Before any assignment we would provide you with the resources needed {cash} Mostly our company send check which would be issued out to you and you cash and use for the assignment. Included to the check would be your assignment packet. Then we would be providing you details on here. But you follow every single instruction given to you as a secret shopper.

    You can earn more which involves nothing more than shopping at a number of selected retailers and assessing their customer service and reporting back. I want you to get back to me with confirmation of your interest and commi tment in working with us, mostly we need you phone number for contact.

    I received this same message many times, and try to get in CONTACT WITH THE BRITISH BANK WITH ABBEY O TELECON ….. and I could not.
    But I found this website, and I realize that I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE YOU TUBE MOMENT OF JOY,, JAJAJAJAJA

    Dear all,
    Such bank should at least have an official website that lists the contact information of working staff.
    Any official email address of managers or employees working with that bank should belong to that website.
    And simply u ll get none of this in the fake email we are talking about.
