Over 70 Driving Licence Renewal UK

A friend recently turned 70 and had to renew his driving licence.  It’s a legal requirement in the UK.  So he turned to the internet and found a site that wanted to charge him for the renewal.

It didn’t take him long to realise that he was being taken in.  I won’t say scammed, because to be fair to the sites that charge, most of them do point out that you can renew for free online through the UK Government website.

It’s not hard to see how my friend was almost taken in by one of these sites.  If you do an internet search for “Over 70s Driving Licence Renewal”, look at the results you get:


There are 4 sites displayed above the official government websites.  They all say they are ads, but most people won’t know that and will click on one of the top results.

All these services listed as “Ad” will charge you for providing a service that you get for free from the Government website.
