Fw: United Nations Conference Invitation
A reader forwarded me this with the comment that “Okay, I’m guessin’, but this just can’t be for real!!!”
How right she is. The scammer claims that a “prestigious” global summit is taking place in a week’s time at the Royal Park Hotel – which will provide all the accommodation. Yeah, right. The Royal Park Hotel has 48 bedrooms and, at the time of writing this, has rooms available for those nights. If you don’t believe me, look them up.
This scammer isn’t interested in your learned papers – they just want to take money from you. I’m guessing they will start asking you for money for fees, fares, etc.
Ignore them.

The same sammers are at work again with more or less the same wording but this time in 2018 they are using the “Queen Gate Hotel.” I guess the giveaway is that no academic in history has been offered free travel but only if they stay at a specified hotel which they have to pay for. Most international travellers to expensive London would expect to shop around themselves and perhaps get a good deal further out from the centre. But the scam has obviously worked if they are coming back year on year as repeat offenders. Time to get the police and m’learned friends involved…..

A Swedish friend – a retired music professor – just called me, baffled by this UN email, so it isn’t over yet. The funny thing is the conference venue: it has now become “Comfort Inn Buckingham Palace International Conference Hall London”. LOL. There is apparently a Comfort Inn on Buckingham Palace Road but the conference room only holds “up to 12 people”. Please don’t search for this hotel on Google. I found myself on extremely dodgy websites for it and my browser froze when I tried to get out of the last one.

Dear Mr……….
(This briefing note is intended to provide information and background on the upcoming United Nations World Conference on the Impact and Implications of the Global Financial and Economic Crisis on Sustainable Development & Climate Change Proposals for an Integrated Global Response to the Crisis – which will take place from 14 – 17 AUGUST, 2012, London, United Kingdom).
Your letter of interest to participate in the upcoming United Nations World Conference on the Impact and Implications of the Global Financial and Economic Crisis on Sustainable Development & Climate Change Proposals for an Integrated Global Response to the Crisis has been acknowledged. Read the following registration details and submit registration requirements accordingly.
Recent assessments of the impact on the ongoing economic crisis increasingly highlight the deteriorating social and political fallout in the least developed countries and middle-income countries as well. Prospects for an early recovery have faded, forcing countries to prepare for a prolonged downturn in trade, investment and employment.
The situation in the world’s developing countries – which contributed least to the crisis and are most severely affected – has led some economists to warn of “lost decades for development” which could have catastrophic consequences for rich and poor countries alike. “In the midst of the most serious economic downturn since the Great Depression, we now have the opportunity and the responsibility to search for solutions that take into account the interests of all nations, the rich and the poor, the large and the small”.
In this effort, it is vital to draw on “technical expertise and practical wisdom” from all over the world, and from countries at every stage of development, as well as from international organizations, academia, private sector organizations, and civil society. In addition to the impact of the crisis on development, the conference will also focus on discussions on reforming and strengthening the financial and economic system and architecture.
The conference will consist of plenary sessions and four interactive roundtable exchanges among world leaders and representatives of the United Nations system, including the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, as well as civil society organizations and the private sector.
The four Roundtables for examining and overcoming the world financial and economic crisis and its impact on development will address the issues of:
(1) the impact of the crisis on employment, trade, investment and development, including the achievement of the internationally agreed development goals and the Millennium Development Goals;
(2) actions and appropriate measures to mitigate the impact of the crisis on development;
(3) the role of the United Nations and its Member States in the ongoing international discussions on reforming and strengthening the international financial and economic system and architecture;
(4) contributions of the United Nations development system in response to the global financial and economic crisis on sustainable.
This is the meeting of the G-192.” To amplify the voices of all countries, rich, poor and middle income, and to clarify global thinking on the most far-reaching 21st century challenge to date, the General Assembly has held a number of timely interactive debates and consultations on the issues to provide inputs into the conference.

To address these social issues with a view of combatting child labor and child molestation, the United Nations Association of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UNA-UK) in conjunction with the International Labour Organization ILO. is organizong a four-day Global conference with the theme: ” Child Exploitation: Exposing the Unseen.” for Youth Organizations, Socio-Cultural Organizations, Community Based Organizations (CBO’s), Educators, Scholars, Researchers, Professionals, Business Organizations, Decision makers in the public & private sector, Representatives of Governmental and Non-Governmental organizations (NGO’s), Religious organizations, Activists, Human Right Organizations, Women Groups and interested individuals are also invited.

Question: What is the “earning model” of these scams?
Romance Scammers And Online Scams
May 27, 2012 @ 8:31 am
@ETF – I don’t know for certain, but my guess is that the scammers “earn” by telling victims to book their flights or hotels via themselves or their associates. The flight or hotel booking won’t exist and the scammer walks away with the victim’s money. The domain associated with the reply email address (unwfec.org) was registered two weeks ago, on 13th May this year (2012)

This one sucked me in for a few minutes since I’ve been looking for a reason to visit London. But it instantly occurred to me that I am not the sort of individual who gets invited to global UN conferences! The poor grammar about halfway down the message also gave it away. Thank you for your confirmation.
